  • This month was a relatively calm month and we used it mostly to get back into the rhythm after the holidays and plan new projects for the year ahead, as well as adding some new ideas and approaches to the already existing workshops. International volunteers have also been doing a lot of different daily activities and they focused on different things (fundraising, promotion of the organization through social media etc.).
  • About 130 participants regularly attended Svitac’s (Firefly Bosnia’s) activities in January. Participants were aged between 4 and 40 years old. The youngest and the oldest participants attended Culture and Art Diversity around the World workshops and English/German workshops for adults.
    • Younger group – They made Teddy bears, snowmen and decorated letters ‘tolerance’ from paper. They learned to write and pronounce letters A, B and C in local languages, maths and new words in English and German related to animals, robots and toys. They learned new songs “Djeca su ukras svijeta” and ‘Do Re Mi’ in local language, and then had an opportunity to play electric keyboard. Highlight with the younger group were workshops about traffic and when they learned phrase “Peace starts with me”.
    • Older group – They made bracelets, peace symbols and Lava lamps. In the Language Workshops, the group learned new words related to hobbies and science and practiced small talk in English, German and Turkish. In the Music Workshops the group played some music where percussion instruments were included. The participants played a lot of volleyball, basketball and team spirit games. The highlight with the older group was a debate when they discussed what makes us Humans.

  • In January, Svitac (Firefly Bosnia) very much appreciated collaborating with 5 international volunteers: two ‘Weltwärts’ volunteers from Germany and three EVS/ESC volunteers from Turkey and Germany.
  • Sending EVS/ESC and ‘Weltwärts’ – Three volunteers from Bosnia are doing their ‘Weltwärts’ and EVS/ESC service in Germany and Spain (12 months).

  • Svitac’s (Firefly Bosnia’s) representatives continued to attend regular monthly meetings with the youth centre coordinator and the other NGOs based in Brčko. The purpose of the last meeting was to share information about activities and plans for January and discuss activities scheduled to take place in the Youth Centre.
  • Svitac’s (Firefly Bosnia’s) staff attended the Public debate on the Draft Law on Amendments to the Law on Associations and Foundations of the Brčko District of BiH, organized by the Commission for Education, Sports, Culture and Cooperation with the Religious Communities of the Brčko District Assembly in accordance with the Decision of the Brčko District Assembly of BiH. The fundamental change of this law refers to the definition of areas of public interest for Brčko District, that is, the financing of projects and programs of the Brčko District Government through areas of public interest.
