For years, the Svitac Summer Camps have offered the young people of Brcko a chance to travel (some of them for the first time) and to take part in music, art, swimming, and games while meeting people from all over the world.
We now work on a combination of Summer activities, both inside and outside of Brčko. These consist of Music and Drama camps outside of Brčko, followed by a week of music, drama, arts and craft and education activites in Brčko itself. This enables us to reach the widest and most diverse audience possible.
Since 1999, the camps have been based at various locations on the Croatian coast. Recently, however, the Brcko local government has stopped funding youth activities based outside Brcko, making coach travel to Croatia unaffordable. As a result, in 2009 and 2010 Summer Festivals were instead taking place in Brcko.
In summer 2011 we ran a very successful pilot music camp outside of Brcko in July, while also running some in-Brcko activities with local and international volunteers.
